Chomsky’s 80th birthday

Some friends created a site to celebrate Noam Chomsky’s 80th birthday.

I don’t talk much about Chomsky because I don’t think anyone who reads anything I would write is unaware of him. Also, because it’s hard to think of what to say about someone who goes so far beyond being an influence or a mentor or a role model. So I went to the site and put this there.

“Happy Birthday Noam. What can I say to you? They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I am a good mimic and do a limited number of impersonations to entertain my friends. I have done a few for you. Sometimes I will be running through some of my better ones, entertaining a group, and people will say: “Do an impersonation of Noam! Do one of Noam!” My answer to them usually goes something like this: if you want to see my impersonation of Noam, and it is admittedly a poor one, see my life.”
