Blah blah blah, opportunity for peace, blah blah blah

Got this from IMEMC:

The Israeli army official said newly elected Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has done nothing to deal with Palestinian resistance groups.

“Abu Mazen must take matters into his hands immediately,” a senior army General Staff said to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz on Thursday.

“Before the elections, the Palestinians told us that he is trying to achieve calm through dialogue. That did not work. In the meantime, the elections are over, “terrorism” continues as usual, and the PA has done nothing.

Even during the election, the Israeli army continued with incursions into Palestinian territory and with the targeted killing of Palestinian resistance activists, despite a promise that they would facilitate the election process. Sunday January 9th, while elections were taking place, the Israeli army made incursions into Rafah, Khan Younis, Um Nasser and Dir Al-Balah, also shooting directly at a polling station in Khan Younis refugee camp.

“Our biggest worry is that the world will buy the argument that Abbas is too weak to take action against terrorism”, said an Army General.

Just so we’re absolutely clear on what this means. The sole purpose of the person Palestinians under occupation just elected is to keep the occupiers safe from the occupied. The biggest worry is that he is too weak to suppress the resistance of his starving, humiliated, battered, devastated people to the military that insisted on attacking them even as they were voting, supposedly for this person who they have now empowered sufficiently so he can repress them, perhaps into vacating their lands permanently.
